Deborah Lippmann - Marrakesh Express

Hi, hope you've had a nice Sunday so far! What have you been up to today? I've been swatching some polishes and halfheartedly watched F1 while doing so. In other words, not too much exciting stuff but I enjoy a lazy Sunday every now and then :)

Today I'm showing you a polish which I thought I would like a lot, but was a bit of a disappointment. Marrakesh Express from Deborah Lippmann was released with the 2014 Holiday collection called Fantastical. I got this one in a Glossybox if I don't misremember. It's a multichrome with strong shifts from red to pink, orange and gold, and there are some golden glitter shards added to it as well.

The formula is thin, but still kind of... sticky(?) in a way. It was hard to spread the glitter evenly on the nail. I used three coats for full coverage, and one coat of top coat was enough to make it smooth to the touch despite the glitter. Still, I really don't like these glitters. Even though they lay flat on the nail, they make the overall finish look uneven and lumpy, and it kind of ruins the polish. It would have been nicer without them. So I gave this one to a friend, not an optimal first impression of Deborah Lippmann for me!

China Glaze - Check Out the Silver Fox

Hej på er! Hoppas ni har haft en fin måndag. Idag visar jag Check Out the Silver Fox från China Glazes höstkollektion, The Great Outdoors.

Trist!

Hello! Today I'm showing you Check Out the Silver Fox from the China Glaze fall collection of 2015, The Great Outdoors. It's a slightly blackened silver foil, which practically applied itself and covered in a single coat, and it was almost completely brushstroke-free as well.

So far so good, I thought, and allowed it to dry without a quick-drying top coat since I was going to use it as a base for nail art later, BUT after 8 hours I could still make dents in it. Then I applied nail vinyls to it, wanting to decorate it, but the polish came clean off the nail when I removed the vinyls. So no nail art, only a somewhat annoyed Emelie and a change into a different polish. So yes, it's a nice silver foil, but really slow drying, which is a shame.

Turquoise and black chevrons/dots

Hi! Some nail art for you today, I did find some time for that last week. I was wearing Age of Aquarius from Color Club which is a lovely turquoise creme, and I thought it would look nice with some simple geometric patterns on it. I used a black creme polish, some chevron nail art tape that I was sent for review from Born Pretty Store, and a dotting tool to create this manicure.

Apart from my dry hands and a bit of smeared pattern on my ring finger, I was happy with the way this turned out. The tape was easy to work with, soft and thin and followed the curve of my nails without a problem. Since it comes on a tape roll instead of on a sheet like most vinyls, you can adjust the length yourself so there won't be as much of it going to waste. It's also divided in three parts (see image below), so you can use both the sides and the center part for your nail art. If you're interested in this product you can find it here, and you can use my code EMJK31 to get 10% off your purchase.

Neon glitter gradient (+ BPS Liquid Peel Off Tape Review)

Hi! Today I've got some nail art to show you. I've been sent this liquid peel off tape for review from Born Pretty Store, so I thought I'd show you one of the manicures I used it for a while back. It comes in a 15ml bottle (shown below) and it is applied with a brush.

For this manicure, I started out with two coats of KIKO 336, an electric blue creme. Then I applied the peel off tape around my cuticles and allowed it to dry. After that, I started sponging on Salon Perfect - Shocked, which consists of blue and neon pink matte microglitters, around the base of my nails, creating a gradient effect towards the tip.

Once that was done, I used tweezers to remove the tape, taking all the excess glitter with it. Here's what it looked like once I had removed the tape from one finger. Some slight residue left around my cuticles, but that was easily taken care of with a brush dipped in polish remover.

And here's the final result, after some minor cleanup and some top coat! Not the best quality of the photos though. Perhaps I should have used a lighter base colour, since the glitters were a little sheer (you can see how they popped much more against the liquid tape than the base colour), but all in all I was happy with it.

Some thoughts about the liquid peel off tape then. It's the first product of this type that I've used, so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but I thought it worked fairly well on me and it definitely made the cleanup after a manicure like this one a lot easier. However, if you have dry skin I would recommending applying some kind of lotion or cuticle cream first, otherwise I found the tape to be a bit hard to remove at times. It also has a quite strong scent, so if you're sensitive perhaps you should try a different one. It did not bother me very much, however.

If you want to try this one for yourself, or any other Born Pretty Store nail art product, you can use my code EMJK31 for a 10% discount.

China Glaze - Mimosas Before Manis

Hi! I accidentally disappeared unannounced for a while, I just completely fell out of my polishing and blogging habit after Easter. I hope you've had a nice weekend. Mine was spent out of town with a bunch of friends and I've had the best weekend in a long time, it was so much fun. :)

Today I'm going to show you a pretty spring colour from an older collection. Mimosas Before Manis was released with China Glaze's spring collection Avant Garden back in 2013. It is a nice peachy coral shade with a subtle golden shimmer. The formula was good and it covered nicely in two coats. It's perhaps nothing spectacular, but it's a pretty shade that I enjoyed wearing.
